Jeremy Ray's First Career NHRA ProMod #1 Qualifier
The Lugoff, South Carolina based family team kept their qualifying streak alive in the NHRA E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Series at Virginia Motorsports Park. On Friday, the Carolina Kingpin ran a very impressive 5.804 to take the #1 spot. On Saturday, during the third qualifying session, the Carolina Kingpin ran an impressive 5.82 in the heat.
Jeremy elected to sit out the final session to help a friend, mentor, and car builder Tommy Mauney try to make the show. Tommy ended up a few thousandths of a second outside of the field. Tommy was filling in for Jim Whiteley in one of the J & A Service prepared cars.
This was Jeremy Ray's first #1 qualifying effort in his short NHRA ProMod career of his rookie season. The team remained focused and continued their extensive preparation for the first round of racing on Sunday as TV crews and National media made their way to his pits to get a few words with the #1 qualifier. During the first round of eliminations, Ray lined up against Steve Matusek. The Carolina Kingpin had a slight shifting issue. Unfortunately, at this level of competition it was enough of a delay to allow Steve Matusek to take the win light.
The J4 Racing Team came back to the pits and diagnosed the issue and were extremely pleased with their weekend. The Team will travel to Bristol, TN this weekend on June 15-17, 2018.
